Latest Gloucester Township Coronavirus Updates

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The new coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey and across the nation is having vast impacts in Gloucester Township, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

Gloucester Township also saw its first fatality related to coronavirus this week. A Gloucester Township man in his 60s died after testing positive for new coronavirus, Camden County officials announced on Monday. A Pine Hill woman in her 60s died on the same day.

As of Thursday, there were 350 cases of new coronavirus in Camden County, including 52 in Gloucester Township. There are eight fatalities in the county altogether.

There are more than 25,000 cases in New Jersey as of Thursday, and 537 people have died as a result of COVID-19.

SCHOOLS

All schools in New Jersey remain closed in response to the new coronavirus outbreak, state officials said. MORE.

The Gloucester Township K-8 Public School District has enabled the GoGuardian Parent, which is an app that gives parents and guardians the opportunity to monitor their children's browsing activity. The school district is providing a top 5 summary of each student's browsing history, including apps, extensions, documents and websites visited; and a 30-day view of websites, videos, documents, apps and extensions.

BUSINESS

CRIME

A 33-year-old man was arrested after he spit on a Gloucester Township police officer and claimed to have coronavirus. Zachary Hagin was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and endangering, according to the Attorney General.

RECREATION

The Gloucester Township Recreation Center’s 2020 Summer Camp Registration that would normally begin on May 26 for residents and June 1 for non-residents has been postponed. A new registration date is to be determined. The 2020 Gloucester Township Community Pool Registration that would normally begin on May 4 has also been postponed. A new registration date is to be determined.

TESTING SITE
Camden County residents now have their own drive-through testing site at Cooper's Poynt Park, 801 Delaware Avenue in Camden City. It is open Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. through April 15.
