HUNTINGTON, NY — The new coronavirus outbreak on Long Island and across the nation is having vast impacts in Huntington, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced. All "non-essential" businesses were ordered to close by Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier in March.

As of Thursday morning, there were 2,320 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Suffolk County, with 495 in the Town of Huntington. Here's how Huntington and its neighboring communities fare:

Here are the latest local updates from Huntington:

SCHOOLS

All schools in Suffolk County remain closed through March 30 after Long Island schools were shutdown for two weeks on March 16.

BUSINESSES

Huntington restaurants and bars are offering options such as takeout, curbside pickup, drive-thru and delivery.

HOSPITALS

Huntington Hospital, which serves the Huntington Township and surrounding communities, has 371 beds, according to its website.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. Earlier in the month, the Diocese said all masses for a month — including all Holy Week and Easter services — would be canceled due to the coronavirus.

The Town of Huntington Senior Center at 423 Park Ave., Huntington, and Senior Division facilities were closed indefinitely earlier in March.

Recent Parks and Recreation facility closures include Crab Meadow Golf Course, at 220 Waterside Road, Northport; Dix Hills Golf Course, at 575 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills; and all basketball courts, the Town announced Monday. Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci asked the public to report observed overcrowding or violations of social distancing recommendations at Town parks.

All play at Town fields is canceled through March 31. The Dix Hills Ice Rink is closed until further notice, and all ice rink programs are canceled.
