Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton underwent surgery for his dislocated wrist on Tuesday in Los Angeles, and will be back in Kansas City to begin rehab Thursday.

Bolton suffered the injury to his left wrist in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

“The one positive is he didn’t have to have any metal put in there,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said.

Bolton will miss playing time with the injury, although the team hasn’t publicly discussed a timetable for his return. If Bolton is placed on the injured reserved list, he’ll miss at least four games and won’t count against the team’s 53-man roster.

Bolton missed three games earlier this season after suffering a high-ankle sprain. Drue Tranquill, who played his first four seasons with the Chargers, took over defensive play-calling duties and will fill that role again.

Bolton, Tranquill, Willie Gay, Leo Chenal, Jack Cochrane and Cam Jones, along with Isaiah Moore from the practice squad, make up the Chiefs’ linebackers room. Cochrane and Jones are primarily used on special teams.

There was good news for the Chiefs on the injury front. Wide receiver Justin Watson, who missed the previous game after suffering an elbow contusion two weeks ago, returned to practice Wednesday. A sleeve covered his left arm.
