This Latin American restaurant from Argentina is opening its first U.S. location in Miami

An Argentine restaurant group is opening its first venture into the U.S. in Miami.

A concept from Grupo Alfoz, a company with more than 10 restaurants in Argentina and recently Tulum, is opening Chimba in Midtown Miami this month.

The restaurant, which is in the process of a soft opening, is an all-day restaurant that highlights Latin influences from Argentina, Mexico and Peru.

Franco Yannelli, co-founder of Grupo Alfoz, said that opening a spot in Miami has long been a dream of the group.

“We’ve always wanted to open in Miami because of the strong sense of Latin American culture,” he said. “Miami’s culinary scene is only growing, and we’re thrilled to be in the middle of it.”

Helming the kitchen is Nicaraguan-born chef Kevin Acosta, who was a chef at Pura Vida and worked in such hotel kitchens as The Setai on Miami Beach.

The menu will feature small and large plates and everything from acai bowls to empanadas. Other highlights are the provoleta with grilled provolone, cherry tomatoes and grilled peppers; a beet arepa filled with pork carnitas and smoked Gouda; and a cured fish on sourdough toast with cream cheese and crispy sunchoke.

There’s also a choripan sandwich with chorizo and shrimp chaufa (Peruvian fried rice).

Chimba will also offer specialty cocktails like the Huancaina Sour with Caravedo pisco, passionfruit juice, pineapple syrup, lime and egg white and the Terré Collins shaken with gin, yerba mate syrup, sauvignon blanc, grapefruit and lemon juice, basil and fever tree tonic.

The 4,500-square-foot-restaurant, which features abstract art by Argentine and Mexican artists, seats 100 inside and 60 on an outdoor patio. The decor is imported from Mexico, Brazil and Nicaragua, with a neon light proclaiming “We are all Chimbas” for your Instagramming pleasure.
