Mar. 3—Welcome to March! Spring is quickly approaching, and there are plenty of places to go in the Twin Ports as we emerge from winter hibernation into the spring thaw. Here are just a few business happenings in the area.
Tavern 105 announces June closure
Superior's Tavern 105 announced last week that the building at 1811 Central Ave. has sold and will no longer function as a restaurant under its new ownership. The bar and restaurant in South Superior, known for its Willie's Wings and blue cheese recipes, operated for six years.
"I will be open until the middle of June. Until then I promise to provide the same quality and service as I always have," owner Shelly Nelson posted on the Tavern 105 Facebook page. "Thank you for all the years of support! I'm so thankful for all the amazing people along the way!"
The building sold as a turn-key restaurant and bar for $430,000 and is under contract with Kwik Trip. Representatives from Kwik Trip could give no further comment.
New food court option in Miller Hill Mall
El Burrito opened last weekend at the food court in the Miller Hill Mall.
The Mexican fast-food restaurant is owned by Semir Secic, who also owns and operates the Stir Fry Express in the food court. El Burrito, which opened in the former Taco John's food court space, offers burritos, burrito bowls, tacos and salads. Similar to Chipotle and Qdoba, El Burrito gives customers a choice of toppings for their orders in an assembly-line format.
"We know the customer base, we know the mall, and it made sense to do something," Secic said. "We let you have freedom of building what you like to eat, and we're here to make sure nobody leaves the mall hungry."
