Rep. Lauren Boebert's ex-husband says he thinks the restraining order she was granted against him is "cruel and unfair."

"It is a prison sentence to keep me from my family," Jayson Boebert told the Denver-based media outlet Westword on Wednesday.

The Colorado Republican was granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband on Friday. The congresswoman accused her ex of attacking their teenage son during a fight on January 9 and for threatening to harm her multiple times.

Boebert told Westword that he didn't make any threats against his ex-wife. He further accused her of using the restraining order to justify her decision to switch congressional districts.

In December, Lauren Boebert announced that she would move from Colorado's 3rd congressional District to the more conservative 4th congressional District.

"One of the reasons Lauren and I had argued on the night of January 6 was because of the move to the 4th, and her never seeing the boys," Jayson told Westword.

"It is frustrating that over the last four years, she has not participated as being a mother or a member of our family, and now her move would separate the boys from her more," he added.

The couple had been married for nearly two decades when Rep. Boebert filed for divorce in May. Their divorce was finalized in October.

Representatives for Rep. Boebert did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.
