LAUSD school to reopen following heavy rain in Southern California

One Los Angeles public school, Topanga Elementary Charter School in Topanga, will reopen Thursday after school officials closed the campus due to weather conditions.

LAUSD officials announced the reopening on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The campus will be open starting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, and parents and guardians are being asked to call the main office at 310-455-3711 should any questions arise.

Another LASUD campus, Vinedale College Preparatory Academy in Sunland, was closed due to weather conditions. Officials reopened that campus on Wednesday.

As the atmospheric river storm moves away from Southern California, meteorologists forecast another round of showers will move in Wednesday night.

The weather system is expected to linger into Thursday morning, bringing between a quarter of an inch to an inch of rain to most coastal and valley areas, according to KTLA 5 meteorologist Henry DiCarlo.

The National Weather Service says as many as 3 inches could fall in some Los Angeles County foothill areas, which are already saturated from the week’s earlier rainfall.

Warmer temperatures are expected to return next week.

All other LAUSD campuses remained open during the rainstorm.
