Lava Pours Down Slope in La Palma as Tenerife Airport Suspends Flights Due to Ash Cloud

Some airlines suspended flights at Tenerife North airport in Spain’s Canary Islands on Friday, October 8, as an “ash cloud” from La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcano arrived, El Pais reported.

At least one local airline had resumed operations at the airport in the afternoon after weather conditions improved. La Palma’s airport remained closed on Friday, according to officials, after accumulations of ash led authorities to close the airport the day before.

The number of earthquakes registered on the island increased in the past 24 hours, El Pais reported on Friday morning, while the magnitude of the earthquakes also grew compared to recent days.
