Fashion, music, and opera are being celebrated by the multihyphenate Laverne Cox.

Directed and performed by Cox, Summertime: A TripHopera is a complete reimagining of the aria “Summertime,” which was composed by George Gershwin for the opera Porgy and Bess in 1935.

This modern and dazzling new music video and fashion film features archival pieces of clothing from Cox’s personal collection ranging from Alexander McQueen to John Galliano to Thierry Mugler.

This new version of “Summertime” was remixed by DJ Hector Fonseca and features vocals from Cox herself. You can listen to this new version and watch the music video below.

Cox is best known for her roles on Orange Is the New Black and Promising Young Woman. In recent years, the actress has starred in films and TV shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jolt, Inventing Anna, and The Blacklist. As of 2023, she is set to play Desiree in the upcoming series Clean Slate.

In the meantime, Cox has also been hosting the If We’re Being Honest talk show series on E! and has hosted a few red carpet events for the network as well. Though details are still being mostly kept under wraps, Cox was also cast in the upcoming Netflix dystopian film Uglies based on Scott Westerfeld’s novel of the same name.
