Lavrov calls off Serbia trip after three Balkan states ban his aircraft from their skies

“The EU and NATO member countries closed their airspace, closed yet another connection,” she said.

Earlier, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Montenegro closed their skies to the plane of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. This happened ahead of his visit to Belgrade scheduled for June 6-7.

Later, the head of Russia’s Roscosmos aerospace agency Dmitry Rogozin on Twitter threatened the three states for closing their airspace to Lavrov.

“You know what Sarmat is good for? It will not ask permission to fly from the cowardly Bulgarians, vengeful Romanians and Montenegrins who have betrayed our common history,” he tweeted.

The Sarmat is a new type of Russian intercontinental ballistic missile that is expected to enter into service in Russia next year.
