‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Crew Member Shot And Killed While Working On Location

A staff member of the NBC drama Law & Order: Organized Crime was shot and killed while working on location during a shoot for the show.

According to police accounts, the victim, Johnny Pizarro, a 31-year-old parking enforcement official, was slain while seated in a vehicle while a scene was being filmed in Brooklyn.

Pizarro was reportedly sitting in a car in Greenpoint, Brooklyn Tuesday morning when he was shot at 5:15 a.m. ET.

Around 6 a.m. ET, he was rushed to the hospital and declared dead. There has been no arrest.

CNN reports that according to NYPD spokesperson Det. Sophia Mason, Pizarro was hit in his his neck and head. Mason told media that NYPD investigators are now looking for the suspect and a possible motive.

Police are also canvassing surveillance footage.

The tragic incident took place while the third season of Law & Order: Organized Crime was being filmed. The series brought back Elliot Stabler, played by Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni, a member of the NYPD organized crime squad in a direct spinoff.

According to Deadline, the incident seemingly occurred during a time period when there was no filming taking place, meaning the victim was by himself when the shooting occurred.

NYPD officers from the NYPD Movie and TV Unit and security were seemingly not on the scene at the time of the shooting, but police arrived to the scene after a 911 call was placed.

An NBC and Universal Television spokeswoman said of the incident:

“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result. We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate.  Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

The office of New York City Mayor Eric Adams released a statement via press secretary Fabien Levy citing how safety is the office's chief concern.

“The safety of all New Yorkers is our top priority. No shooting is acceptable, which is why we are working every day to get illegal guns off New York City streets,” Levy told Deadline. “The NYPD is actively investigating the fatal shooting of a crew member of Law & Order: Organized Crime early this morning.”

Meloni and other members of the main cast have yet to speak about the shooting on social media.

Law & Order: Organized Crime follows the investigators of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they attempt to put an end to the most brutal criminal organizations in New York City. Bryan Goluboff is the showrunner of the series, and it stars Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, and Nona Parker Johnson alongside Meloni.
