Leave it to the dedicated fans of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit to notice the smallest (and strangest) of Easter eggs!

Last week, the long-running NBC crime drama finally returned from its winter hiatus for its fourth episode of its 22nd season, titled "Sightless in a Savage Land." Among many other exciting things, the episode featured the return of fan-favorite character Rafael Barba (Raúl Esparza) along with a gripping storyline involving an Amber Alert on New Year's Eve. But there was also a small detail in the episode that viewers likely missed: a fun little Easter egg relating to Detective Amanda Rollins, played by Kelli Giddish!

Specifically, eagle-eyed fans noticed something unusual — and very interesting — on Amanda's desk located in the NYPD's 16th precinct. Upon closer inspection, the strange little object was revealed to be something ... furry?

That's right: There's a chipmunk — an actual, real chipmunk — in a glass display case on Amanda's desk! Naturally, SVU fans on Reddit did a little digging into the story behind Amanda's very strange choice of a desk accessory, and, as it turns out, the furry animal has been on the SVU set since at least 2015. According to Entertainment Online, Kelli Giddish placed the chipmunk on her character's desk as a homage to Amanda's roots in Georgia — which, interestingly, turns out to be the very place the actress is from, too.

"I thought Rollins needed some more 'Georgia' represented in her life," Kelli explained to E! News back in September 2015. "My father in real life is like Elmer Fudd with chipmunks, because they destroy his garden. So I got a taxidermied chipmunk. It makes me laugh!"

And the best part of it all? The chipmunk was given a name by none other than SVU cast member Ice-T, who plays Sergeant Odafin "Fin" Tutuola on the show.

"I asked Ice to name him, and he said 'DC,'" Kelli said. "Stands for Dead Chipmunk."

It's certainly a hilariously fitting name — and a bizarre desk decor choice, no less! In fact, even SVU's own leading lady Mariska Hargitay (a.k.a. Olivia Benson) had something to say about the furry addition to the show's set back in 2015. "That's some weird Kelli Giddish thing," she told E! News with a laugh. "Let's just leave it at that. He's not hurting anybody."

Well, we don't know about you, but we're definitely looking forward to spotting more special cameos from DC when we tune in each Thursday for another brand new episode of Law and Order: SVU!
