A man driving a riding lawnmower on Shell Road in Hampton died Saturday night after a car hit the lawnmower, according to police.
Police said they received a call about an accident in the 1900 block of Shell Road about 11 p.m. Officers found a Chevrolet Malibu sedan that hit a lawnmower in the road.
Police said the lawnmower and the Malibu were both heading west on Shell Road, and the Malibu hit the lawnmower from behind.
Two people were on the lawnmower. The driver, Floyd Arthur Howard, a 62-year-old man from Hampton, died from the crash, police said. The passenger, a man, was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police did not say if there are any charges associated with the crash.
The police division’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash and asks anyone with information about the crash to call 757-727-6111.
