Lawrence County Prison now gets canine assists in search for contraband

NEW CASTLE – Taking a proactive measure for officer safety, some of western Pennsylvania's best four-legged professionals helped officers in their search for contraband last week.

Referring to the search as "Operation Who's A Good Boy," the Lawrence County Prison partnered with the American Working Dog Association to bring in police canines from Beaver and Lawrence counties to track down potential contraband. This partnership was started to promote officer safety and serve as a deterrent for individuals trying to sneak narcotics or contraband into the prison.

According to a release from the prison, every location that prisoners and staff have access to within the prison was fully searched by the police dogs. Employee lockers and administrative offices were also searched by the dogs during this process.

Lawrence County Prison officials say that future canine searches will occur periodically to promote safety for employees and prisoners at the jail.
