Lawrence Twp. trustees address complaints of ATVs on township roads

Lawrence Township trustees

Thursday meeting

KEY ACTION: Addressed complaints of young children riding all-terrain vehicles on township roads.

DISCUSSION: Trustees agreed to address the issue with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Department, and relate to residents, if any action can be taken.

In another matter, the township trustees have placed a 2-mill, five-year replacement levy for the Scenic Road District on the Nov. 8 ballot. The funds are used to repair roads in the township, excluding the villages of Bolivar and Zoar. The current levy expires, Dec. 31, 2023. The replacement levy would not start collection until Jan. 1, 2024, and would generate about $259,512 annually.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Addressed a complaint from a resident of Hunter’s Green allotment about a sign where shrubs are overgrown and the stop sign is not visible. Trustees said the sign is on the county right-of-way, however the residents of Hunter’s Green are to maintain the sign and not the township.

  • Heard Oct. 10 is the deadline for applications for a new road employee. Applications are available online. A job description for the new road employee will be posted on the township website.

  • Learned the street in Olde Hilltop allotment has been paved. The new allotment only had a base coat of asphalt.

FOR YOUR INFO:

  • Bolivar Fire and Rescue will hold an open house at the fire station from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 in honor of Fire Prevention Week.

  • The township newsletter will be sent to residents the end of the month.

UP NEXT: meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the township building, Industrial Parkway, Bolivar.
