A Gwinnett County man will be sentenced at a later date following his conviction Friday in Athens on molesting a child in 2021.

A Clarke County Superior Court jury convicted David Lee Griffin, 29, of Lawrenceville on an indictment charging him with aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and child molestation.

The crimes occurred between Aug. 22-26, 2021, at a location in Athens and involved a girl, whom he knew, that was under the age of 16, according to the warrants.

The weeklong trial ended with Griffin’s conviction on all counts. He has been incarcerated in the Athens-Clarke County Jail since his arrest on March 24, 2022. He was denied bond on the basis that he potentially poses a threat of committing another felony if released.

In previous court documents, prosecutors filed their notice to show similar sexual offenses that occurred in Gwinnett County.

Superior Court Judge Lawton Stephens will hear arguments at the sentencing from the defense and prosecuting attorneys in regards to punishment.
