LAS CRUCES – The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education is now accepting applications to fill the seat vacated by Ray Jaramillo last week.

Jaramillo submitted his resignation to the board Wednesday evening, March 8, effective immediately. He attributed his decision to responsibilities with the preschool Alpha School for Young Children as well as recent family health issues.

He served LCPS District 1 since his election in 2017.

On Monday, March 13, the board met in a special session to discuss and approve the process for filling the empty seat. The vacancy must be filled by April 23, 2023, by law – 45 days following the vacancy – or a qualified person will be appointed by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
