LCSO releases schedule for upcoming handgun safety courses

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is set to host several handgun safety courses over the next three months and invites locals to sign up and participate.

Through partnering with Auburn University’s Office of Professional & Continuing Education, LCSO offers an “excellent opportunity to learn about safe handgun handling and ownership” by orchestrating handgun safety courses throughout the year.

The courses are both led by Sheriff Jay Jones and David George. The fee to participate in either of the three courses offered is $99, which includes eye protection, hearing protection and covers range costs. All three classes are identical. The courses will also provide attendees with information regarding permits and different types of firearms as part of the course.

LCSO says interested individuals are not required to own a firearm to participate.

The three sessions will held at the following locations:

  • Lee County Sheriff’s Office – March 12-16

  • Lee County Sheriff’s Office – April 2-6

  • The last course will be held from May 14-18 at a shooting range, the sheriff’s office will share the location of the range during the class.
