LCU pounds Cameron in series finale

Eduardo Acosta went 5 for 5 with five runs batted in and four runs scored as Lubbock Christian University outslugged Cameron 20-12 Sunday at Hays Field, finishing with three wins in a season-opening Lone Star Conference baseball series.

Ryan Ball hit a three-run homer for LCU (3-1). Chris Shull and Nate Van Maanen, batting third and fourth in the Chaps' order, drove in three runs apiece and had five hits between them.

Jacob Gutierrez also had five hits and three runs scored for LCU, and Carson Ogilvie homered.

Ryan Markwardt (1-0) struck out nine over the last six innings in relief, allowing six runs on nine hits.

LCU softball

Kasey Flores and Tiarra Delrosario each hit a two-run homer and No. 21 Lubbock Christian University run-ruled Southwestern Oklahoma State 9-1 Sunday in the last of its five games in the season-opening Lubbock Sports College Classic.

Maxine Valdez (2-0) allowed three hits in a five-inning complete game for LCU (4-1).

Delrosario, Skylar Herrera, Hope Banales and Kasey Flores, the top four hitters in the LCU order, had two hits apiece. Berkeley Quinn, Ally Oyanguren and Riley Flores also had two hits each.

WBU baseball

PLAINVIEW — Arturo Disla went 4 for 4 with a homer and five RBI and Wayland Baptist run-ruled New Mexico Highlands 14-3 Saturday to complete a four-game series sweep.

Wayland starter Tyler Wade (1-0) struck out nine over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits.

Matthew Unangst hit a three-run homer for the Pioneers (6-2). Caleb Rozier, Carson Parham and Cesar Lopez also homered for Wayland.
