LCU sweeps doubleheader from UT Tyler

Left fielder Brevin McCool drove in four runs in the first game and three in the second game as Lubbock Christian University beat UT Tyler 13-5 and 12-6 Sunday in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Hays Field.

McCool had five hits in the two games, helping LCU (7-5, 7-5) split the four-game series after UT Tyler (8-4, 8-4) won on Friday and Saturday.

Chris Shull and Jarred Gibson homered in the first game of the doubleheader, and leadoff batter Carson Ogilvie went 2 for 2 with three walks, a run batted in and three runs scored.

LCU starter Andrew Duran (2-0) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. The junior righthander from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, struck out five.

In the second game, LCU took a 7-2 lead with a six-run second inning. McCool started it with a two-run single. Eduardo Acosta, Shull and Nate Van Maanen followed him to the plate and homered back to back to back.

Sam Shank's three-run double in the fourth made the Chaps' lead 10-2, and Marcus Steen doubled home two runs in the sixth.

LCU starter Ryan Markwardt (2-0) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits. The junior lefthander from Itasca struck out six and walked two.
