LCU's Foster named region's outstanding player

Lubbock Christian University forward Grace Foster was named the most outstanding player on the NCAA all-South Central Region women's basketball team sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Foster, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Childress, was the Lone Star Conference's third-leading scorer with an average of 16.4 points per game and its second-leading rebounder at 8.9 per game.

LCU forward Rowan Mackenzie was one of the five first-team honorees on the all-South Central Region men's team. Mackenzie, a 6-3 junior from Perth, Western Australia, was the Lone Star Conference's second-leading scorer at 19.5 points per game and its sixth-leading rebounder with an average of 6.6 per game.

The South Central Region is made up of the Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic conferences. Sports information directors from schools and conferences in the region voted on the teams. They were released in conjunction with last week's regional tournaments.

The LCU women finished 24-11, losing to UT Tyler in the Division II NCAA Tournament South Central Regional final. The LCU men finished 19-12, losing to Fort Lewis in a South Central Regional first-round game.

Tech volleyball

Kenna Sauer, a first-team all-Big 12 honoree for Texas Tech each of the past two seasons, is headed to the University of Houston as a graduate transfer. Houston announced her signing Wednesday.

Sauer, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Ankeny, Iowa, led Tech each of the past two years in kills, kills per set, total attempts, points and points per set. In addition to being all-Big 12, she also received all-Southwest Region recognition each of the past two years by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Sauer played two years at Missouri before she transferred to Tech.

Tech men's basketball

Texas Tech forward K.J. Allen, who averaged 2.2 points in 46 career games as a backup, will have his name entered into the NCAA transfer portal, On3Sports reported Wednesday.

Allen, a 6-foot-6, 255-pound forward, played in 27 games this season as a junior. He averaged 9.1 minutes, 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. He played in 19 games the year before and averaged 7.6 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Tech men's tennis

Texas Tech will try to add to a four-match win streak when the Red Raiders play two matches in two days in Eugene, Oregon. Tech (9-6) takes on Oregon (8-5) at 7 p.m. CDT Thursday and Brigham Young (3-7) at 6 p.m. CDT Friday.

The Red Raiders won the Diablos Tournament hosted by Arizona State, defeating Michigan State, Arizona State and No. 24 Memphis. They started the streak Feb. 25 with a victory over Alabama.

Oregon also played in the Arizona State event and went 1-2, losing its last two matches to Memphis and Arizona State. Brigham Young has lost four in a row.
