Leader of drug conspiracy sentenced to 30 years in Virginia Beach

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The leader of a drug conspiracy was sentenced on Feb. 2 in Virginia Beach to 30 years in prison for his role in leading a multi-year, multi-state methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.

Malik “Mayo” Dillard imported bulk packages of nearly pure methamphetamine to Virginia from out of state suppliers, according to court documents. Dillard then distributed the drug throughout Hampton Roads via other dealers.

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. Overdose deaths caused by methamphetamine skyrocketed 9,500% in Virginia from 2007 to 2022, a release states.

Dillard’s 15th criminal conviction and third federal conviction. In 2009, he was sentenced in Richmond for his role in leading a conspiracy involving 16 bank robberies across seven states in 75 days — which started just one week after he was released from prison. In 2003, he was sentenced in the Northern District of Georgia for his role in leading a conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
