RIVERVIEW – Ryan Nadeau got up early Saturday morning, talked briefly with his former boss, then went out and got the job done.

Nadeau, who took over from Mike Humphrey as caretaker of the highly successful Jefferson wrestling program this season, started the day of his first Huron League meet as head coach by talking to Humphrey.

“He just wished me good luck,” Nadeau said.

Then Nadeau had a familiar message for his wrestlers before the matches began.

SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE

JACKSON – It took Chase Norbury just 5 seconds to dispose of his opponent.

The Bedford heavyweight recorded a pin that was a second faster than the school record set 34 years ago by Roman Rimmer during Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Meet.

That gave an idea of how dominant the Mules were against the rest of the league. They rang up 211 points to just 126 for runner-up Tecumseh. Monroe placed sixth with 76.

DOWNRIVER LEAGUE

WYANDOTTE – “For the second year in a row Carlson and Wyandotte Roosevelt are co-champs,” Gibraltar Carlson coach Lance Hassell said after his team won Saturday’s Downriver League meet.

Senior Brenden Mitchell came through in a big way with a title at 190 pounds.

“That’s probably what won it for us,” Hassell said of Mitchell’s title. “He had a 22-14 record coming in, but he really stepped it up. I think he pinned his way through the tournament.”
