Leak found in Addison water system, residents urged to boil and conserve water

A municipal disaster was declared Friday after a leak was discovered in Addison's water system.

The leak caused a water supply shortage for the area. Members of the Addison Area Water Authority issued a water conservation notice and a boil water advisory.

“The water authority is doing everything possible to rectify this situation as soon as possible," authority spokesman Kevin Nogroski said in a press release. "This issue may take several days to fix, and we kindly ask residents for their patience as we work through these issues."

Bottled water and water buffalos are available for residents at the Addison Volunteer Fire Company, 7214 National Pike, Addison, PA 15411; the Anchor In, 7780 National Pike, Addison, PA 15411; and St. John Lutheran Church, 653 Main St., Addison, PA 15411.

Residents are urged to use the bottled water for cooking and drinking, and the non-potable water from the buffalos for other uses.

Addison is in need of more bottled water donations. Anyone who wishes to donate can call state Rep. Matthew Dowling's office at 814-634-4390.

“In 2018, we assisted Addison Borough with a water issue of the same caliber,” Dowling said in a press release. “I am once again proud of the work of local and state government agencies and others in the community in responding to this emergency.”

Residents in need can also call Addison Mayor Sam Collins at 814-395-5253.

Over the weekend, the National Pike Water Authority donated 50,000 gallons of water to help refill the Addison authority's supply. The leaks in the Addison lines have also been located and are being repaired.

Somerset County Department of Emergency Services Director Joel Landis said residents should monitor the situation for further updates.

“Everybody has made tremendous progress this weekend in getting the reservoir filled, the leak location identified and obtaining the needed bottled water for the residents,” Landis said.
