Mindfulness and stress relief for teens

DOVER — Teens are invited to the Dover Library on Monday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. for a free class on mindfulness and developing stress relief strategies. Instructor Michelle James from ChildLight Yoga will share techniques for handling stress and creating inner calm by incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine. Digging into native history in New Hampshire

STRATHAM — On Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., Stratham Historical Society and Wiggin Memorial Library will jointly sponsor a New Hampshire Humanities program via Zoom, “Digging Into Native History in New Hampshire”.   The presenter is Robert Goodby, a Professor of Anthropology at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge.

'Decoding the mysteries of cats' with feline behaviorist Stephen Quandt

DOVER — If you’ve ever wonder why cats do the things they do, then join Dover Public Library virtually on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. for “Decoding the Mysteries of Cats” with Feline Behaviorist Stephen Quandt.

In this hour-long program, learn about cats’ relationship to the predator cycle of hunting and resting, their sense of identity as predator or prey, relationships with humans, and how all of the above relates to hunger, appetite, metabolism and exercise. The presentation will be followed with a question and answer session geared towards attendees who would like behavior advice.  This virtual program is free and open to the public. Lunch and Learn: Balance and fall prevention

BERWICK, Maine — Berwick for a Lifetime will be hosting a special lunch and learn on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the library. Staff members from Rehab Services Services at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital will be sharing a presentation about balance and fall prevention. SEACOAST — Girl Scouts follow their own convictions, take the lead in their own stories, and explore all the extraordinary things they’re capable of. Girls in grades K-3 and a caregiver are invited to learn about opportunities to get involved in your community. Try out sample activities and see the many ways to get involved on Thursday, Jan. 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Epping Library, 151 Main St., Epping. This event has a special STEM/space theme. Snowshoe Rangers at the Wentworth House

ROLLINSFORD — Step back in time at Rollinsford’s historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and meet Captain John Harmon’s Snowshoe Company of Rangers, a group of historical reenactors who portray the soldiers who patrolled the New England frontier during the 1740s and 1750s.

Visitors may also tour the Wentworth House; warm up by the hearth and watch food being prepared in 18th century fashion; and experience other aspects of winter life in colonial New England. Admission is $5 for adults; the event is free for children and ARCH members.  For more information visit paulwentworthhouse.org or Facebook at The Colonel Paul Wentworth House.

Battle of the Bands

PORTSMOUTH — The Skatepark of Portsmouth, N.H. announces the Battle of the Bands, featuring seven talented teen bands from around the region. The event will take place on Jan. 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Community Campus, 100 Campus Drive, Portsmouth, N.H.

The lineup for the evening includes: Borealis; Glue; Granite Danes; Rock Bottom; Second to Last Minute; Take 3; and The Big Sun.

These talented young musicians are sure to bring an energetic and exciting atmosphere to the event.

In addition to the music, there will be $1 raffles and $1 pizza, all for a small $5 cover charge with all proceeds being put directly towards lighting for the skatepark, a cost estimated to upwards of $200,000.

This event is geared towards ages 14 and up, but open to all. Come out and support talented young musicians while raising funds for a great cause. The Skatepark Committee and volunteers promise a night full of exciting music, good food, and fun for all. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to support the local community and have a great time.
