What we learned from Chiefs’ 41-10 win vs. Chicago Bears (with Taylor Swift watching)

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense had not been good nor consistent through two weeks of the season.

Consider that issue solved for a week.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the passing game reverted to previous seasons’ form against a beleaguered Bears defense, and KC also showed its most effective running attack in a 41-10 home victory over Chicago on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

And it all was perfect timing for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The KC tight end, rumored to be dating pop singer and megastar Taylor Swift, said earlier in the week he had invited her to a Chiefs home game.

Sure enough, Swift showed up to the game and watched from Kelce’s suite at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, sitting next to his mother, Donna, while wildly cheering throughout the game.

As for the football ... KC couldn’t have been much more dominant after entering as a 12 1/2-point favorite.

Following an opening-drive punt, the Chiefs’ offense went touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, field goal and touchdown on the next five drives. KC led 31-0 at halftime, though it also got a scare late in the second quarter when Mahomes had his right ankle rolled up on by the Bears’ Yannick Ngakoue on a pass-rush attempt.

Mahomes — reminiscent of some plays during last year’s playoffs — stayed in while hobbling on the field, toughing his way through the end of the half before going in on the Chiefs’ first drive of the third quarter.

He wouldn’t be needed much longer. Following a short TD pass to Kelce — who else? — Mahomes subbed out for the team’s next possession while up 41-0 with 4:37 left in the third quarter.

The Chiefs’ defense, a week after deserving the game ball in a 17-9 road win against Jacksonville, was excellent once again. Cornerback Trent McDuffie forced a fumble, and safety Justin Reid deflected a Justin Field pass that led to a Mike Edwards interception.

The Chiefs held Chicago scoreless on its first eight possessions. The Bears scored their 10 points in the fourth quarter.

One of the only negatives for the Chiefs was the continuation of a season-long issue with offensive-line penalties. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor, who entered as the NFL’s leader in flags, picked up two more first-half infractions for illegal formation while lining up off the line of scrimmage.

Taylor was not in for the team’s first drive of the second half, only coming in later after Chiefs left tackle Donovan Smith was injured on a play before returning.

KC (2-1) will play at the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football on Sunday, Oct. 1.
