Week 0 of the Oklahoma high school football season is in the books. Here's a look at some of the key storylines:

Owasso star, Alabama commit Cole Adams likely out for rest of regular season

Owasso senior wide receiver and Alabama commit Cole Adams will likely be out for at least the rest of the regular season with a left shoulder injury he sustained against Bixby on Thursday, according to a report by the Tulsa World.

Adams later confirmed with The Oklahoman he suffered the shoulder injury.

Adams’ shoulder took a direct hit after he made a catch in the first half of his team’s 49-14 season-opening loss at the University of Tulsa’s H.A. Chapman Stadium.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder finished the half but didn’t return after the break and is set to have surgery Monday, according to the report.

Deer Creek rolls against Edmond North

Deer Creek’s quarterback Grady Adamson didn’t disappoint in his first varsity start.

The sophomore led Deer Creek in a come-from-behind 49-20 win over Edmond North to open the season at home. Adamson completed 15-of-25 for 266 yards with two touchdown passes and two rushing scores in the win.

The season for the 2021 Class 6A-II state runner-up didn’t begin well as it faced a 14-10 deficit going into halftime. But that all changed in the second half.

“We just settled down as a team,” Deer Creek coach Wade Standley said. “We had a lot of guys playing in the lights for the very first time. A lot of young guys and they settled down and played really well in the second half… I’m proud of the way they finished.”

McGuinness routs Putnam City

Kazeyn Bird couldn’t be missed on the field.

Bird, an inside linebacker from McGuinness was a “force” and helped McGuinness alter Putnam City’s offense, leading to a 52-17 win Friday night. The Fighting Irish stormed off to a 21-point lead in the first half and coasted to its win from there.

“They had some long passes that gave them the opportunity to move the ball down the field,” McGuinness coach Pierce said. "Just some short things for us to sure up there. But I felt like we were in control pretty much the whole time.”

Bird, a move-in from Westmoore, wasn’t the only defensive star on the night. Pierce also liked the play of defensive tackle Vincent Shivers. As a unit, McGuinness could post a stout defense this season.

Offensively, quarterback River Warren stood out and ran for a 30-yard touchdown run that helped put the game away.
