At least 6 people unaccounted for after 2 officers shot near house fire in eastern Pennsylvania

Two police officers were shot near a house fire in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, NBC affiliate WCAU reports. Now, at least six people are unaccounted for.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday for a report that an 11-year-old girl was shot, WCAU reports.

When officers arrived on scene, a gunman inside the home opened fire. Two officers were shot one time, WCAU reports.

The two officers, both 22-year veterans, were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer says both officers are believed to be in stable condition, per WCAU.

“It was because of the Upper Darby Police Department who also responded to that call that these officers are alive today,” Stollsteimer said to WCAU. “They were dragged out of danger by Upper Darby police officers.”

At least six people, including children, who lived inside the home are unaccounted for after the fire, WCAU reports.

“Our fear is there may be multiple people inside that home who have died,” Stollsteimer said. “We don’t know yet whether or not we can confirm or deny that until we get inside and methodically go through the debris that that house is now.”

Officials are still unsure if the initial report of an 11-year-old girl being shot was accurate.

Officials are expected to check inside the house Thursday morning.
