At least 11 killed, 98 injured after train derails outside Cairo

A train derailment outside Cairo has left at least 11 dead and injured another 98 people on Sunday.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health announced after the incident that 50 ambulances were dispatched to the area after the train went off the tracks near the city of Toukh, about 22 miles north of Cairo. The train had left the Egyptian capital headed to Mansoura, the Egyptian Railways Authority said.

The Egyptian Railways Authority said a total of 4 cars derailed in the incident.

Ministry of Health spokesperson said that despite the high body count, most of the injuries were not serious.

The derailment is not the first deadly rail incident in Egypt in 2021. In late March, at least 32 were people and another 165 were injured after two trains collided.
