At least 3 carjackings reported since Friday afternoon on South, North sides, police say

At least three carjackings were reported since Friday afternoon on the South and North sides, Chicago police said.

The latest vehicle theft happened about 11 p.m. Friday in the Bronzeville neighborhood in the 3800 block of South Giles Street.

Police said a 23-year-old man was outside near his vehicle when a black Jeep Grand Cherokee drove up and stopped. Four males exited the Jeep and pointed handguns at the victim. One of the males demanded the keys to the victims vehicle and he complied, police said.

The offenders then fled in the victim’s 2020 orange Dodge Challenger, but one of the robbers fled in the Jeep, police said.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, a man, 31, and a woman, 27, were inside of a Chrysler in the 1100 block of West Montana Street when two people approached the vehicle on both sides. The person on the passenger side pulled out a handgun and told the victims to exit their vehicle. They got out and the two people entered the Chrysler and drove away. The vehicle was recovered later on the 400 block of Roslyn Place, police said.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, a 46-year-old man was carjacked in the 200 block of West 79th Street in the West Chatham neighborhood, police said.

The victim was exiting his vehicle inside a parking lot when two armed offenders approached him and demanded his vehicle. The victim complied and began to run when the robbers fired shots at him. The armed suspects took the vehicle and fled the parking lot. The victim was not struck by gunfire, but was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, police said.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
