At least nine vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Franklin Boulevard Thursday evening.

At least nine vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle crash on both sides of Franklin Boulevard under Interstate 5 just after 7 p.m. on Thursday as winter weather hit the area, according to Eugene Police.

One of the drivers was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after being removed from the car by Eugene Springfield Fire, police said.

According to police, as temperatures dropped to freezing, moisture on the road from earlier snowfall in the area created black ice.

After responders cleared the road, an ODOT truck was able to de-ice it, police said. The road was reopened to traffic around 9 p.m.
