Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Monday afternoon just southwest of Millstadt.
Few details are available.
The accident involved two vehicles, according to Trooper Josh Robinson, a public information officer for District 11. It occurred about 12:21 p.m. on Illinois 158, near N.G. Heimos Greenhouses.
“When more information becomes available, a press release will be disseminated,” Robinson wrote in an email.
Shiloh resident Greg O’Neil said he was driving south toward Columbia on Illinois 158 when he came upon the accident.
O’Neil used his cellphone to snap a photo of a large, white box truck positioned sideways across the highway with its cab in a ditch. The name “Enterprise” appeared on the door.
The other vehicle, a red pickup truck, was off the road.
“It was bad,” O’Neil said.
An officer with Millstadt Police Department verified that a crash had occurred, but referred inquiries to Illinois State Police.
More information could be available Monday night or Tuesday morning, Robinson said. As of 7 p.m. Monday, the accident hadn’t been reported on the District 11 Facebook page.
