One person was killed and two were injured in a shooting Monday afternoon outside an Amazon warehouse in Jacksonville, Jacksonville sheriff deputies said.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m. at 12900 Pecan Park Road outside the building.

A 20-year-old man was in line to submit a job application when he was shot and killed, said Brian Kee, sheriff’s office assistant chief.

Two men came out of a silver car, ran to the victim and began shooting, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“It was not random,” Kee said. “It was specifically targeting this victim. Investigation is still very early on. We are still trying to figure out what the motive was.”

Two other men, 29 and 22, were injured but were not hospitalized, he said. They were also in the employment line.

About 10 eyewitnesses were inside and outside the building. None of the victims were Amazon employees.

The eyewitnesses were sheltering in place after the shooting, Kee said.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” Amazon spokesman Timothy Carter said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and all those who have been impacted by this incident.”

He said Amazon will work with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as they investigate. Amazon is offering counseling and support at the building.
