Lebanon baseball leaves American Legion, merges with Schuylkill-Berks

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – Youth baseball players in Lebanon will no longer be associated with the American Legion league.

The Schuylkill-Berks and Lebanon Leagues officially merged on Jan. 17 to form the United Baseball League in an effort for both leagues to continue to provide baseball to kids at an affordable cost.

“We’re thrilled to have Lebanon join us and we’re looking forward to making this marriage work,” said Schuylkill-Berks president Ed Lloyd. “The priority right now is to develop a league alignment, a schedule, and a league championship format for the 2024 season.”

The league will begin by utilizing Schuylkill-Berks bylaws and HFHS rules for the 2024 season after the Lebanon league unanimously voted to leave American Legion baseball.

“For the Lebanon teams, playing under the NFHS rules are what players use in school ball and a myriad collection of rules in the summer under legion,” said former president of the Lebanon league Tim Schaeffer. “This will make the transition from high school to summer baseball transparent to the players, a big plus.”
