Lebanon's Skobel signs with Principia

Jan. 8—Lebanon senior Kam Skobel has earned himself an opportunity to play at the next level.

Skobel signed with Principia College to continue his academic and soccer careers. He had a signing ceremony at the school on Friday afternoon.

"I am definitely pretty excited," Skobel said. "I wasn't sure where I was going to fit at the beginning of the soccer season, so it's a relief to sign this and know where I am going to be next year."

Principia College is a NCAA Division III school that plays in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Panthers are coached by Jess Semnacher.

"I really liked the campus, which was a big factor," Skobel said. "I went to one of their games, and felt like it was a program that I could come in as a freshman and maybe not be a star, but contribute right away. I felt like it was a place I could get better and better in my years there."

Skobel was a strong defensive presence for the Tigers soccer program this fall.

He said the Principia coaches felt like he can make an impact right away with his size.

"He liked my height and liked how I can place balls on set pieces," Skobel said. "I can win balls out of the air with my size and have pretty good foot control for a defensive player."

Since the season ended, Skobel said he has been focused on a couple of things to improve within his game before making the jump to the next level.

"I talked with the coach and we had a conversation about things I felt like I needed to work on," Skobel said. "He sent me some workouts to work on that stuff. I want to work on my touch out of the air, that was the biggest thing. Then of course I want to continue to work on my fitness, because that's a big thing."

When looking back at his time at Lebanon, Skobel said there are a lot of good memories that he is going to take away from his time being a Tiger.

"There were so many fun times," Skobel said. "Spending time with my friends and the soccer team, all of it was just a lot of fun. What I am going to miss the most is just hanging out with all the friends that I have here at school."

Skobel plans on studying mass communications.
