LeBlanc leads McMurry men past Sul Ross State in ASC basketball action

ALPINE – C.J. LeBlanc lit up Sul Ross State for a game-high 30 points as McMurry beat the Lobos 85-79 in an American Southwest Conference men’s basketball game Saturday.

Elijah Lomas added 13 points, while Elias Garcia and Remy Minor had 12 and 11, respectively as the War Hawks (6-13 overall, 5-7 ASC) won their second straight game.

Trey Nelson led Sul Ross (6-14, 3-10) with 16 points and Gabe Sanchez had 13.

The Lobos led 43-35 at halftime, but McMurry outscored them 50-36 in the second half.

LeBlanc, a junior guard, hit eight 3-point goals and eclipsed 1,000 points for his career.

McMurry plays Texas-Dallas on Thursday in Dallas.

Treys spark HSU past HPU

Jamison Bosch hit seven of his team’s 22 3-point goals and finished with a team-high 23 points as Hardin-Simmons beat Howard Payne 125-96 in ASC game at the Mabee Complex.

Stamford grad Austin Brewer hit all three treys attempted and followed with Bosch with 18 points. Will Bartoszek added 15 points, while Calaway Dykes had 14, Jason Justice 13 and Steven Quin 11.

The Cowboys (13-6, 8-4) hit 58% from the field (44 of 76), including 55% from 3-point range (22-40).

Jerren Godfrey led HPU (3-18, 1-12) with 23 points, and Armonie Ramey had 19. Cooper grad Deven Bailey had 12, and Mike Koehler had 11.

The Yellowjackets hit 20 of 29 free throws.

The Cowboys, who have won three straight games, plays Ozarks on Thursday in Clarksville, Arkansas, before going to Texas-Dallas on Saturday.

WOMEN

Sul Ross tops McMurry

At Alpine, Brianna Martin and Marley Rokas combined for 41 points as Sul Ross beat McMurry 84-76 in an ASC game.

Martin had a game-high 21 points, while Rokas added 20. Vania Hampton also had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Lobos (12-10, 8-5).

Kyle Flippin led McMurry with 16 points, and Emily Holland followed with 15. Aryana Cleveland added 12.

McMurry plays Texas-Dallas on Thursday in Dallas.
