Led by St. Xavier High, 49 Louisville-area wrestlers qualify for KHSAA State Championships

Four Louisville-area wrestlers won their weight classes Saturday during the Kentucky High School Athletic Association First Round State Championships at Atherton.

Oldham County’s Miller Brown (138 pounds), Trinity’s George Ferree (165) and Lane Kiser (190) and St. Xavier’s Carter Guillaume (285) took home first-place honors.

The top eight finishers in each weight class earned spots in the KHSAA State Championships set for Friday and Saturday at George Rogers Clark High School.

Union County — winner of seven straight state championships — was the top team finisher Saturday at Atherton with 224.5 points. Paducah Tilghman was the runner-up with 197 points and was followed by Trinity (155), St. Xavier (123.5), Oldham County (118.5) and Fairdale (99).

Forty-nine wrestlers from the Louisville area qualified for next week’s State Championships at GRC. St. X had the most with nine, followed by Oldham County (eight), Trinity (seven) and Fairdale (seven).
