GREENLEAF − As you drive south along State 57 toward Greenleaf, in the midst of open fields and farmland, you will find a spot to slow down and savor the moment about half a mile before the town.

If you spot the small business sign on the left side of the highway, right after a crop of grapes, turn your wheel toward it and follow a gravel road down a little hill. You'll find yourself at the parking lot of LedgeStone Vineyards, where Adam and Katrina Magnuson not only make their wine and beer, but also host concerts, comedy acts and offer full meals.

The Magnusons bought the vineyard in 2017 in the town of Wrightstown and have grown it little by little since. Their most recent offering? A full-service kitchen.

Adam said they always thought about building a kitchen, but for years they only offered cheese plates and other appetizers.

"We kind of figured that if people are going to be in the open enjoying a little wine, you've got to give them good food," he said.

He said they built a kitchen behind the tasting room and convinced his friend John Wallace to create a food menu and become the chef. They officially opened the kitchen with a full menu on Feb. 1.

Katrina said they had wine club members try different dishes and help create the menu.

"They (the club members) have been so good to us," she said. "They've been with us since the beginning and are always happy to help."

The menu offers starters like Bavarian pretzels to dip in beer cheese — made with their Greenleaf Pilsner — and brewpub mustard, bruschetta and Cajun salmon cakes. There are also flatbreads, burgers and pasta as well as steaks, like a rib-eye melt sautéed with mushrooms and white cheddar or Korean medallions, which are grilled beef tenderloin glazed with Korean bulgogi sauce. For those who prefer fish, there's grilled salmon and a fish fry.

"Everything is delicious," Adam said. "But we highly recommend all the pastas — John is a brilliant pasta chef."

Most recent offering includes dinner and a show

As part of their vision, the Magnusons said music was always going to be in their plans. There is an outdoor stage between the winery and the vineyard perfect for summer months, but they wanted to add more in the winter.

With the kitchen now officially open, they are offering three-course meals and a show — usually a band — for $75 per person. Customers that purchase the combo can come as early as 5:30 p.m., sit down and enjoy a full meal with a beverage of choice. Adam said people can also just come for the concert, which starts at 7 p.m., for $25.

"We have a smaller area for people to stand and enjoy the music," he said.

Upcoming March shows include the bands High & Rising, Horace Greene and the Short Pay Riders. There are also jazz nights or comedy nights and "Yoga in the Cellar" the second Wednesday of every month.

The Magnusons bought the vineyard with the vision of creating a place that is part of people's lifestyles. They added Gnarly Cedar Brewery in 2020 in collaboration with Milwaukee-based Eagle Park Brewing. In 2021, they increased production with a new seven-barrel system and expanded the winery.

LedgeStone Vineyards, 6381 State 57, is open from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
