Leesburg Electric is waiving late fees in recognition of soaring bills

LEESBURG — City commissioners have agreed to waive late fees for electric utility customers in the face of soaring natural gas generating costs that are expected to rise by more than 65 percent in the upcoming fiscal year.

“The utility understands that many of our customers are struggling with higher-than-normal bills,” City Manager Al Minner said in a press release. “The City Commission and our power supply partners are continually working to find ways to help lower these costs."

Leesburg Electric has already absorbed more than $12 million in costs to help defray costs to its customers.
