Legacy of the Loud is ready to rock the Regatta

Jun. 9—WORTHINGTON — Legacy of the Loud, a Twin Cities cover band determined to bring listeners all the classics of 1980s rock, will play at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sailboard Beach at the Worthington Windsurfing Regatta and Music Festival.

"They're really going to specialize in the rock side," said Barry Roberts, music chairman of the festival and a member of its Board of Directors. "They are going to cover everything from Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Def Leppard, all that kind of '80s rock."

Legacy's repertoire includes a vast array of tunes, not just the hair band hits, but also some of the standards of the era from Journey, Boston, Aerosmith and Guns 'N Roses.

It's all part of the festival's strategy, Roberts said.

"We want to bring in familiar music and specialize in the genres that are going to hit every (demographic)," he said.

While the most popular shows seem to be the national-level country music acts the festival brings in, Roberts said that on Saturday night he prefers to bring in a party band or a cover band, "the total opposite" of Friday's country-oriented crowd-pleasers.

Legacy is part of that, as is the scheduled performance from Viva Knievel at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The group is more than a cover band, though, with its whip-fast guitar riffs and vocals that shift to match the style of the originals, with just enough difference to make the material new again.

The group has shared the stage with everyone from David Lee Roth to Whitesnake, Warrant, Queensryche and John Fogerty, and they've even performed at the Minnesota State Fair.

They'll bring their unique medley format to the Regatta, where you might find anything from "Renegade" to "Welcome to the Jungle" or "Dream On."

"It really has grown into quite the festival," Roberts said.
