Legacy Run sees record-breaking number of participants
Oct. 5—Over 600 people participated in the 11th Annual Whitefish Trail Legacy run over two days last weekend in Whitefish.
On Saturday, Oct. 1 participants ran the 50K Mountain Ultra course that started in Depot Park, climbed to the summit of Big Mountain via the Whitefish Trail in Haskill and finished back at Depot Park during the Great Northwest Oktoberfest.
On the women's side, professional runner with The North Face Jennifer Lichter of Missoula ran to first place and broke the women's 50K course record by 50 minutes. Her time of 4:29:00 was also second overall in the race. For the men, Dyer Healy of Bozeman took first with a time of 4:22:48.
On Sunday, Oct. 2 there were four different races available to participate in — a half marathon, 10K, 5K and a family-fun run. These courses explored the Whitefish Trail in the Beaver Lakes area, starting and ending at the Whitefish Bike Retreat.
In the Half Marathon, Woods River of Missoula took first for the men with a time of 1:43:46. For the women, Jordan Gurgiolo of Polson clocked 1:59:35 for first place. Other results can be found at competitivetiming.com.
Whitefish Legacy Partners saw a new participation record with 664 people registered across all five races, including 170 runners for the 50K.
"The Legacy Run celebrates our community trail system with a race distance for everyone," said Alan Davis, WLP Director of Development. "It was so wonderful to see so many runners and families participating, all in support of Whitefish Legacy Partners and our important work. It was the perfect fall day to explore the Whitefish Trail. Thanks to all runners for making it a record event for WLP."
