Legacy Theater brings music of Prince, Big Band Luise from Germany

The Legacy Theater in Carthage plans two shows during June.

The 1980s sounds of Prince will come alive at the theater at 7 p.m. June 25, with Marshall Charloff and The Purple Xperience. Creating the sound and the look of Prince, this five-piece group comes from Prince’s birthplace, Minneapolis, Minn.

Lead singer, Marshall Charloff, has not only the sound and the appearance of Prince’s performances, but his talent on guitar and piano. They have have fronted world-class symphonies in most major cities in the US and Canada with the sounds from the late 1970s and the 1980s.

This show is generously sponsored by Memorial Hospital and Quincy Medical Group.

The Purple Xperience has been touring the country since its inception in 2011, sharing the bill with The Time, Cameo, and Cheap Trick.

Big Band Luise is making its third visit to The Legacy Theater in Carthage with a free performance Wednesday, June 29, at 7 p.m.

The band began in 2009 when high school students interested in big band music and jazz began playing under the direction of Regina Coupette. The band grew in sound and size, becoming part of Mulheim, Germany’s Jazz scene.

In the summer of 2015, the band had its first international tour to the United States through the Blue Lake International Exchange Program and is now sponsored by the Goethe Institut.

Students will be in the area from June 28 to July 1, staying with host families, visiting local attractions, and seeing the daily life of Carthage and Hancock County.
