Legal Sports Betting Debuts In Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, PA - Legalized sports betting arrives in Pennsylvania’s two largest cities Thursday, at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh and SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia. After a soft opening with limited hours Thursday and Friday, regular sports wagering hours at both casinos are expected to begin on Saturday.
A U.S. Supreme Court ruling in May paved the way for states to legalize sports betting. In Pennsylvania, the state’s 12 casinos can operate a sportsbook after paying a $10 million fee.
Rivers Casino’s sportsbook initial operating hours will be as follows:
Monday–Thursday: 10 a.m. to midnight.
Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. to midnight.
According to the casino, here’s what you need to know about the sportsbook:
The sportsbook is located next to the High Limit Table Games and 446 Club.
The sportsbook is cash only. Bets can be made by a sportsbook writer and in the future, kiosks will be in available to place bets.
You can tell if you’ve won your bet by watching games in the sportsbook area or seeing one of the sportsbook writers.
Winners have one year from the date of their tickets (365 days) to claim their winnings.
You don’t have to stay for the entire game if you bet on it.
The minimum and maximum bet will vary based on each specific bet, but on average a minimum bet will be $5.
Winnings can be redeemed at the sportsbook during open hours of operations. After hour winning bets can be claimed at the cashier cage.
You can initially bet on football, hockey, basketball, boxing and soccer; additional sports will be added soon. There will be no wagering on horse racing at the casino.
The types of bets will vary, but options include money line, spread, over-under and parlay.
You must be 21 or older to be on Rivers Casino property and to place a bet.
An unlimited number of bets can be made at one time.
