The Legend of Vox Machina season two was confirmed as soon as Amazon picked up season one. The first season was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, with Amazon ordering fourteen more episodes when they decided to air the first ten (expanding season one to twelve episodes, with the same scheduled for season two).

"Critical Role blazed a new trail for original digital content, with fresh new voices and humor that earned devoted fans around the world, as evidenced by their wildly successful Kickstarter campaign,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios (via Variety). “We’re thrilled to work with the whole team to bring The Legend of Vox Machina, and new Critical Role series, to our Prime Video customers."

"We were absolutely floored by the level of enthusiasm we received on the Kickstarter campaign, and now we can deliver exactly what the fans wanted, and more," Critical Role’s Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham said in a joint statement.

"Teaming with Prime Video to deliver the series to fans across the globe is exciting and surreal - and we’re psyched to be able to tell even more stories with not just one, but two 12-episode seasons!"

So, was Amazon right to roll the dice on The Legend of Vox Machina season two? Here’s everything you need to know.

Animated series take a while to put together, but with Vox Machina’s hugely successful Kickstarter campaign landing in 2019, there’s been plenty of time for the gang to start crafting season two.

Factor in the challenging circumstances that delayed the premiere of season one (the pandemic pushed the show’s debut from late 2020 to early 2022), and we’d predict that we’ll be seeing new episodes sooner than you might expect.

If we’re really lucky, we’ll get season two before the end of the year, bringing it back onto the originally scheduled plan. If not, it’ll most likely be January 2023.

Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Liam O’Brien, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham aren’t just actors on the show – thanks to the unique way the show was created, they’re executive producers, with an equal stake in the success of the series.

We’d expect all of them to return.

The series is an adaptation of Critical Role’s first Dungeons and Dragons campaign, with season one ending on a fairly shocking cliffhanger that set up season two perfectly – especially if you like dragons.

After being brought before King Uriel Tal'Dorei, ruler of the Tal'Dorei Empire, Vox Machina was shocked to discover that Uriel was abdicating the throne to relinquish rule of the Empire to the Tal'Dorei Council, claiming Vox Machina's teamwork inspired his choice.

However, after Vex'ahlia's ringing ears altered the gang to an incoming dragon, Keyleth and King Uriel saw four dragons quickly approaching. The season closed on the sight of four dragons (each as terrifying as the next), getting ready to decimate Emon.

Expect season two to open immediately after the cliffhanger, with the season dealing with the repercussions of what’s certain to be a violent opening to the new series.
