Legendary crooner to bring his hits and Christmas show to Modesto’s Gallo Center

Iconic singer Johnny Mathis is set to play a holiday show at the Gallo Center in Modesto. Also bringing festive music to the venue are Chris Isaak and Jake Shimabukuro. These are just some of the entertainment and events set in the region for Dec. 16-22.

A Johnny Mathis Christmas

Celebrating 67 years in music, the legendary Johnny Mathis returns to the Gallo Center to sing his holiday hits, romantic ballads and personal favorites. Best known for his songs “Chances Are,” “It’s Not For Me To Say,” “Misty” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” the Grammy-nominated artist has recorded nearly 80 original albums, including six Christmas collections. Limited tickets were available.

Chris Isaak

Stockton native and platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated singer and actor Chris Isaak brings his “It’s Almost Christmas Tour” to the Gallo Center. The recently released “Everybody Knows It’s Christmas” is Isaak’s second Christmas album and features 13 tracks of original and cover songs. Limited tickets were available.

Holiday Candlelight Concert

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra returns with its Holiday Candlelight Concert, this time at a new location. Previously held at St. Stanislaus Church, this year’s concert is at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Modesto. It will feature traditional Christmas hymns and carols performed by the MSO, its chorus and the Opus Handbell Ensemble.

Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro will bring his new Christmas show to the Gallo Center. “Jake Shimabukuro — Christmas in Hawai’i” will include holiday classics such as “We Three Kings,” “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “O Holy Night,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and selections from his “Jake & Friends” album. He will be joined by bassist Jackson Waldhoff and singer-songwriter Justin Kawika Young.

In Nochebuena: A Christmas Spectacular coming to the Gallo Center, Ballet Folklórico de Los Angeles and Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar embrace some of the traditions that people in Mexico celebrate during the Christmas season. Holiday Home Tour

The Modesto Garden Club again will hold its annual Holiday Home Tour. This year’s tour Includes five local homes plus the Modesto Garden Club office, all decked out in holiday decorations for patrons to enjoy. For locations, see the Garden Club’s website.
