The Misfits formed in 1977 and soon developed a cult following with its rockabilly-meets-punk sound and unique stage presentation. Their show resembled something from “Creature Feature,” with band members dressed in spikes and black leather, singing songs about aliens, monsters, zombies and teenagers.

The original Misfits broke up, appropriately enough, on Halloween in 1983, when Danzig left to form his own group. Bassist Jerry Only forged ahead with a number of different lineups. Since then, the popularity of the band has grown exponentially, with many paying homage to the Jersey horror punks by covering their songs: “Last Caress” was covered by Metallica; “Attitude” by Guns N’ Roses; and “Skulls” by the Lemonheads.

In 2016, Danzig rejoined the band for Riot Fest shows in Chicago and Denver, and there have been a handful of shows since then, including a concert at the Prudential Center in 2018 and Madison Square Garden on 2019.

Frankenstein, aka Paul Caiafa, plays a solo show May 5 at Dingbatz in Clifton.
