Legendary sportscaster not returning for 2024 season after 35 years, reports

ALABAMA (WDHN) — Eli Gold, who has been the voice of Alabama football for 35 years, will not be returning for the 2024 fall season, according to Tuscaloosa News

The Tuscaloosa-based news outlet reported that Alabama University chose not to bring Gold back on Wednesday afternoon, citing a source with “knowledge of the situation not affiliated with the university.”

Gold missed the Crimson Tide’s 2022 season while he battled cancer but returned for the 2023 season, even calling the Iron Bowl.

During his 35-year career on radio, Gold has called a quarter of all Alabama University football games.
