Legends of Tomorrow star replaces late Ray Stevenson in new movie

DC's Legends of Tomorrow star Dominic Purcell has taken over the late Ray Stevenson's role in the movie Cassino in Ischia.
According to Deadline, shooting is back underway in Italy after Stevenson's death resulted in a pause to production a month ago. He was hospitalised straight off the set with a sudden illness, before passing away aged 58.
Rome, Naples and the eponymous island are being used for filming many sequences in the movie.

Purcell, who'll also be familiar to Prison Break fans for his time as Lincoln Burrows, is playing the lead character Nic Cassino here, an action megastar knocked off his pedestal by the next generation.
"In an attempt to revive his career, he travels to Italy to make the first-ever 'Neo-Realist' action film with a down-on-his-luck Italian director. When unresolved family struggles resurface, he is forced to reconcile all he left behind on his road to fame," teases a synopsis.
Meanwhile, when news of Stevenson's death first emerged, one of his colleagues from Thor: The Dark World paid tribute to him on social media.

"So sorry to hear about the passing, far too young, of Ray Stevenson," credits director James Gunn tweeted. "I only knew him a little from shooting post-credits of Thor 2 and a couple [of] interactions at events, but we had some good laughs and he was a joy to work with. His friends and family are in my heart today."
James Purefoy, who appeared alongside the late star in Rome, also posted: "So sad to hear the news that Ray Stevenson, our Pullo in Rome, has passed away. A brilliant, gutsy, larger-than-life actor who filled every part he played right up to the brim. My thoughts are with his family, his lovely wife Betta and their beautiful kids. What a loss."
Cassino in Ischia is yet to receive a release window. Legends of Tomorrow aired on The CW in the US and Sky Max and NOW in the UK.
