The first instrument he took up was the 5-string banjo, however he became known for his fiddle playing, which got him performing with WWVA regulars like Heckels, and got him a full-time job with the Wheeling Jamboree. He has also played multiple times at the the Grand Ole Opry, Wheeling Jamboree, Gold Coast Casino in Las Vegas, and more.

He graduated from Glenville State College and created and lead the Bluegrass Four Year Degree program at Glenville State College, and the first person to complete the program was Lizzy Long, of Little Roy and Lizzy. The awards he has received include being inducted to the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2023, the Vandalia Award, an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from Glenville State College, and the winner of the West Virginia State banjo and fiddle contest.

Bassist David O’Dell, a Spencer, West Virginia native, joins Buddy Griffin on stage. He started playing at 14 years old and learned learning clawhammer style banjo for traditional music under the influence of Frank George.

While he focused on traditional music after high school, he branched out to musical styles like bluegrass, as well as instruments like the fiddle, dulcimer, guitar, and bass. He moved back to West Virginia in 1996 and was invited to be the Board of Directors of the West Virginia State Folk Festival. He has also filled in as a substitute band member for different bands by playing various instruments like banjo, fiddle, or bass when regular band members were not available to play.

O’Dell also taught workshops on mountain dulcimer, fiddle, and banjo at places like the Augusta Heritage Center, Allegheny Echoes, and the Cedar Lakes Craft Center.

Jackie Kincaid, from Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, is the mandolin player. He started playing the mandolin when he was young and he was offered jobs with bluegrass bands when his talent became apparent. Some of the venues he has played at in the United States include the Grand Ole Opry, Bill Gaither’s Videos, RFD-TV, the World’s Fair and more.

I have accomplished more than I could ever thought possible in Bluegrass music, and it all began in the mountains of WV. While I live in Nashville now, WV will always be my home.

Jackie Kincaid

Kincaid has performed with many artists such as Bobby Osborne, Jesse McReynolds, Curley Seckler, Alison Krauss, Judy Marshall, Dave Evans, Uncle Josh Graves, and other top bluegrass artists.
