Americans own heritage of native land, for better or worse

My father came from Italy; my mom from Little Italy, with parents from Italy. To my knowledge, neither side of my family tree ever owned slaves, either here or in Europe. Neither have I.

My elders came here and bought into this nation for its good. With that, they owned the bad, too. Therefore, so do I.

My fellow patriotic Americans and I cannot have it both ways. We own all the heritage of our native land, good and bad.

DeSantis, Legislature scaring off already scarce workforce

If Gov. Ron DeSantis is making available 1,100 members of the Florida National Guard and other state law enforcement officers to patrol the southern border, he should also think about the deployment of more National Guard around his own state to pick the crops that will now be left to rot in the fields and also to continue the building projects left behind around the state.

Keep attacking Trump; watch popularity grow

As President Joe Biden narrows his talking points down between the great job he’s done, versus MAGA extremists, the American public might be catching on. The job isn’t so great, and we can’t find a Russian puppet or a white supremacist anywhere.

Polls across the country are not so kind to the tottering president, according to Real Clear Politics. They chart scores of polls on every subject in every contentious election in every state, but what concerns Democrats now is Donald Trump vs. Biden in 2024. Even after the verdict against Trump in Manhattan, with a jury far from favorable, a ravenous district attorney and a judge whose wife was a Democratic activist, old 45 got eye-catching numbers. Washington Post/ABC had The Donald over Biden by 6 points. On May 7, The View freaked.

After the Durham report showed the FBI manufacturing much of the Russia hoax, the Harvard/Harris poll increased from Trump up 5 points in April to a bulging 7 points. Economist/YouGov went from a virtual tie, to Trump plus 2.

No polls recently have found Trump slipping, even against Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis is ahead of Biden in many polls, but more disheartening for Dems are the polls including Kamala Harris. Trump tops the VP by 10 points, but DeSantis in the same Harvard poll is ahead by only 2. That’s a tell.

Will the next round of circular firing squads succeed? In Atlanta, the Democrat Fani Willis is drooling for Trump to come to town so she can display her talents in her liberal enclave. The D.C. feds can’t wait to show the loot from Mar a Lago. Maybe there will be a love letter from President Kim of North Korea or nuclear codes for Vladimir Putin?

The dangerous game of crucifixion may be backfiring. Real Clear Politics has got its finger on the pulse. Stay tuned.

Don't buy baloney sold on Fox; show us Biden evidence

I have a great deal of respect for one of your letter writers from Stuart, but I wish she would learn to turn the channel. Fox has repeatedly lied to her.

Does she know Fox paid $786 million to Dominion voting for slandering and lying about them knowingly? Does she realize that if there are so many crimes in the Biden laptop, why didn’t Donald Trump bring an indictment against Hunter Biden? After all, Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr at the Department of Justice had the Biden laptop way before the election.

Would this letter writer be surprised to know no one’s actually cited a statute that any Bidens have broken? Some folks like to scream, "laptop, laptop, laptop, crimes, crimes, crimes," but the majority of Americans are waiting for them to point out are specific crimes they allege the Bidens have broken.

If folks got their news from anywhere but an entertainment corporation, they might remember Marco Rubio called Trump's 2016 campaign manager a grave national security threat or that Trump's 2019, GDP was 2.1%, not a great economy.

Please muster the courage to seek information from anywhere other than a company that has admitted to lying to the public.

Professor does disservice to students regarding Second Amendment

This is in response to Bruce Anderson's recent column, "The founding fathers were wrong about the Second Amendment."

I am a first-generation American offspring of German Jewish parents. My father, from Austria, had just graduated from medical school.

He fled, barely saving his life, while two Jewish classmates were beaten to death by Nazi thugs.

My mother, from Berlin and still a teenager, survived the London Blitzkrieg alone, displaced from the former secure life she had known.

My uncle was on the St. Louis ship that was not allowed to drop passengers off on U.S. soil. He spent the war years in Auschwitz, where he miraculously survived.

Another uncle was a German World War I veteran, who became a doctor. The Germans took away all medical licenses from Jewish doctors in the 1930s. My uncle, historically, won his case in a Nazi court that World War I veterans, even as Jews, had the right to practice medicine. Through the tyranny of the Nazis, this decision was eventually ruled null and void, enforced with guns and might makes right.

The point I’m making is our trust in government morality has been shattered before. The entire essence of the Second Amendment was the knowledge of the forefathers regarding human nature. In fact, the entire revolution against England for independence rested on armed insurrection.

Diplomatic challenges would have kept us a colony of England.

Perhaps Professor Anderson feels secure in his professorial, conforming life. Yet from the above examples, that can potentially switch to a tyrannical oversight. In my opinion, he drastically missed the point of the Second Amendment and does his students a misjustice in his interpretation.

Crew of USS Liberty deserve independent probe

“With liberty and justice for all” are the last words to our country’s Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. With those words, when does the crew of the USS Liberty get justice?

It has been 55 years since the Israeli military assaulted our ship, the USS Liberty, on June 8, 1967, from war planes and torpedo boats. She was in international waters off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula, collecting intelligence during the Six-Day War.

Israeli military forces were unsuccessful in sinking her, but 171 Americans were wounded and 34 were killed.

To this date, no complete and impartial congressional investigation of this attack has taken place. In my opinion, the crew deserves one!
